About the Event

Voces Unidas is offering a second CLEAP class/trip in 2024! This is a shorter, 3-day program in Mexico City in early December.

We have 10 spots available for this shorter trip to Mexico City. The deadline to apply is May 26, 2024.

DACA holders are encouraged to apply! Any DACA holder not selected will be offered a free legal consultation with an immigration attorney to learn about advance parole options in the future (a value of $350).

Please read the program details carefully before applying. Only apply if you are ready to process your advance parole application because you know you already qualify.

About CLEAP

The Civic Leader Education & Advocacy Program (CLEAP), organized by Voces Unidas de las Montañas, a nonprofit organization based in Glenwood Springs, is the only international program for immigrants that qualifies as an educational program for advance parole.

CLEAP creates opportunities for participants to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between the United States and the host country, immerse participants in the host country's current cultural, civic and political context and practice leadership and advocacy skills during the program.

Who should apply

The ideal participant would self-identify as an immigrant in the U.S., have a passion for and an interest in current immigration policy and have demonstrated a track record of leadership in their community. DACA leaders and Latinos living in rural Colorado are encouraged to apply.

Fluency in Spanish is required.

Deadline to apply

Applications are due by midnight on May 26, 2024. Acceptance notifications will be released by end of business on June 6, 2024. DACA holders selected for the program will receive pre-approval earlier to start the required legal consult to get pre-clearance from an immigration attorney. If cleared for travel, participants will be formally accepted to the program on June 6, 2024.

  • $270 for 3 nights of hotel in a shared room or $615 for a single room. (Limited scholarships available for travel expenses).
  • $500 for airfare from Denver to Mexico City (estimated).
  • If DACA, the cost of requesting advance parole is $2,030, including filing and attorney fees. (Voces Unidas has scholarships to cover some or most of these costs).
  • Additional health or travel insurance is highly recommended (about $50 per covered trip)
  • Meals on your own (program covers all breakfasts, welcome dinner, celebration dinner and some refreshments)
  • Any other personal expenses

Program fee and hotel costs are due to Voces Unidas once accepted to the program. Airfare is purchased directly by the participant. Legal fees, if DACA, are also paid to Voces Unidas.

Legal support

Voces Unidas has contracted with Curray York & Associates to provide immigration legal services for our program and participants. Curray York & Associates has successfully helped 15 DACA leaders in 2023 and 2024 with advance parole as part of CLEAP.

The total cost of applying for advance parole is $2,030, which includes attorney and filing fees. Participants will get a comprehensive consultation to establish eligibility, preparation/filling of DACA applications and all supporting documents, a travel folder for re-entry, pre-travel orientation, support if congressional intervention is needed, and legal support during re-entry and post-trip.

Thanks to a donor, Voces Unidas has limited scholarships to cover some or most of these legal costs. The balance is the responsibility of the participants.

Only DACA holders ready with documentation now will accepted to the program. It takes about 5 months to get approved for advance parole.

Payment of legal services is due to Voces Unidas once accepted to the program. Payment plans are available. If you cancel your participation after legal services have been started, only the unused portion of the balance can be reimbursed.

Airfare and hotel

Airfare is the responsibility of each participant. Participants must arrive by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 to Mexico City. Departure can occur any time on Friday, December 6, 2024.

Participants pay Voces Unidas for hotel costs based on single or double occupancy.
