Position: Political Director | Director of Civic Engagement and Political Programs​

Report to: CEO

Location: Denver, Eagle or Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Hours: Full-time​

Our Mission​

We are working to create a more equitable central mountain region where Latinas and Latinos are thriving, engaged and leading in all of our communities. We do this by creating opportunities where Latinas and Latinos advocate for themselves, actively participate in all civic institutions and take leadership roles in all decision-making tables. We are also building and growing political and community power in the region through our Action Fund and other affiliated organizations.​

Our Organizations

​Based in Glenwood Springs, Voces Unidas was the first Latino-created, Latino-led, and Latino-serving advocacy organization in the central mountain region in Colorado. We operate in Garfield, Pitkin, Eagle, Lake and Summit counties. Voces Unidas includes four separate organizations, all of which work independently to accomplish the larger mission. The Position

We are looking for a motivated leader who thrives in a start-up culture and is looking for an opportunity to build and strengthen Voces Unidas’ civic engagement and political programs.​ This position can be based in the Denver office, with extensive travel to the region to execute the work. A strong candidate will have experience managing field staff/volunteers, managing vendors, raising political money, developing political campaign strategies, and working with strategic partners. 

Duties and Responsibilities​

  • Oversee overall strategy, planning and execution of all civic engagement, electoral, political and candidate training programs;

  • Plan and execute a year-round voter education and engagement program;

  • Offer strategic leadership trainings and workshops to meet the local and regional needs of leaders;

  • Lead accountability campaigns, as needed, to hold elected officials accountable;

  • Run campaigns in support or against ballot initiatives;

  • Manage candidate endorsements process and small donor committee strategy;

  • Lead independent expenditure strategy to support local and statewide candidates;

  • Manage state and federal electoral compliance requirements;

  • Manage program staff, contractors and consultants, as needed;

  • Develop and ensure program goals are met;

  • Develop and manage program budgets;

  • Serve as an active member of the leadership team;

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with coalition and other partners to advance our work;

  • Manage and support an advisory group of leaders;

  • Responsible for leading small donor committee fundraising strategy and playing a key role in all other political fundraising, including supporting donor relations;

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

​Required Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications​

  • Alignment to Voces Unidas’ mission;

  • 5-7 years of experience in electoral, civic engagement, or political campaigns;

  • Has a strong political network and relationships with leaders within the progressive ecosystem;

  • Experience managing political or voter engagement campaigns;

  • Experience developing or managing candidate endorsement process;

  • Experience with small donor committees and independent expenditure committees;

  • Familiarity with political data, latest technologies, and best practices in the field;

  • Independent and strong leader that is able to drive projects and programs to completion in a fast-paced environment;

  • Ability to work within a coalition of diverse organizations and partners;

  • Experience working in diverse communities and with grassroots organizations;

  • Bachelor's degree;

  • Experience working with Spanish-dominant communities;

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills;

  • Ability to be flexible and steadfast in the face of ambiguity;

  • Action-oriented, self-starter who can work well independently and in collaborative teams;

  • Willingness to work flexible hours including 1-3 evenings per week and occasional weekends;

  • Full-time access to a car;

  • Ability to be in multiple locations in the course of a given day, the ability to transport items, and the ability to set up and take down meeting equipment (chairs, tables, projectors, screens, etc.);

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

 

Salary and Benefits​

  • Starting salary range is between $65,000 to $85,000, based on experience
