Naomi Peña Villasano graduated from Grand Valley High School in Parachute this morning while wearing her Mexican-American stole.
We congratulate Naomi and her family on this momentous occasion that marks the end of an academic journey and the beginning of a new chapter in life.
At least two other students received their diplomas while also wearing cultural stoles.
Voces Unidas stands with students who wish to celebrate their culture in public ceremonies and is already working with state lawmakers to pass new legislation in 2024 to address this equity issue.
