Selina Najar recently joined Voces Unidas as its first Political Director & Director of Civic Engagement. This position oversees our year-round voter education and engagement, candidate training, and local government accountability activities.
Based in our Denver satellite office, Selina is responsible for directing the strategy, planning, and implementation of our organization’s electoral and civic engagement programming to reach and mobilize rural Latinas and Latinos in the central mountain region of Colorado.
Hailing from Grand Junction, Selina comes to Voces Unidas with more than eight years of political and civic engagement experience in Colorado, with a specific focus on rural communities across the state. She has worked alongside the Colorado General Assembly the past seven legislative sessions, first as an aide, then as an in-house lobbyist. Most recently, Selina served as Cobalt’s Political Director, leading the organization’s electoral and policy programming to its largest, statewide electoral program to date, highlighted by the passage of the Reproductive Health Equity Act and Colorado’s Health Care Shield Law.
“As the daughter of a first-generation Mexican-American, and as the first in my family to attend college, it’s a genuine honor to be able to use the opportunities afforded to me to continue to build and grow our community’s political power and influence in the region,” Selina said.
Selina holds a Bachelor’s degree from Colorado Mesa University. She started her career as a grassroots organizer on the Western Slope, managing candidate and issue campaigns in Avon, Delta, Montrose, and Steamboat Springs.
