Voces Unidas Action Fund is proud to endorse eight education champions for school board seats along with two statewide ballot initiatives supporting the Healthy School Meals for All program on the ballot in the Nov. 4 election. After a thorough vetting process, we are endorsing bold candidates running for school board positions in Mesa, Garfield RE-2, Roaring Fork, and Summit school districts.
These are our endorsed candidates for 2025:
Mesa County Valley School District 51 (3 seats up for election)
Kaci Cole – District D
Vicki Woods – District E
Garfield RE-2 School District (2 seats up for election)
Darlane Evans – District A
Steven Beaulieu – District E
Roaring Fork School District (2 seats up for election)
Tamara Nimmo – District A
Kathryn Kuhlenberg – District E
Summit School District (3 seats up for election)
Kimberly Dyer – At-Large
Whitney Horner – At-Large
Voces Unidas Action Fund makes candidate endorsements in school districts where Latinos make up at least 25% of the student population. We endorse and support candidates who are aligned with our values and will champion the issues that matter most to Latinos. Each endorsed candidate has expressed policy positions and commitment to tangible actions to address the needs of Latino students in their districts. Additionally, all candidates have committed to holding their school systems accountable for achievement and academic gaps between Latino students and their white peers, where in some case the gap is up to 40%.
Vote “Yes” for Propositions LL and MM
Voces Unidas is also recommending that voters support a pair statewide ballot issues this November. Following the passage of the Healthy School Meals for All program by Colorado voters in 2022, Propositions LL and MM expand funding for the program in future years.
Prop LL – Allow State to Retain Revenue From Proposition FF Measure
A “yes” vote means the state can keep and spend all revenue from the 2022 school-meals program instead of refunding any excess to taxpayers.
Prop MM – Tax Deductions and Revenue for School Meals Measure
A “yes” vote means the state can limit tax deductions for high-income earners to raise about $95 million a year for the Healthy School Meals for All program.
Endorsements are just the beginning
As a local, community-created 501(c)(4) nonprofit with the mission to build and grow the Latino community’s political power in the central-mountain region, Voces Unidas Action Fund invests time, energy and resources to support our endorsed candidates. We volunteer, knock on doors, make phone calls, and raise money from local community members. We do this because we believe that when our neighbors and communities come together to support leaders who share our values, we can affect the change we need.
