Voces Unidas Action Fund is proud to announce and congratulate the winners we endorsed for Western Slope school board seats in Tuesday’s elections. We saw major wins across multiple school districts, with seven out of our eight endorsed candidates winning their races — a clear signal that voters across the Western Slope are rejecting political extremism and demanding leadership focused on kids and families.
The most profound victories were seen in the Mesa County Valley School District 51, where we weighed in on two winning candidates: Kaci Cole in District D and VIcki Woods in District E. Their election to the five-seat board promises to swing the majority away from a controversial board that had been inserting politics into classrooms to an apolitical body that rechannels its focus on student outcomes and making sure all families have a seat at the table.
We saw similar outcomes elsewhere.
Garfield RE-2:
Steven Beaulieu (District E) won his race unopposed, while Darlane Evans (District A) fought hard but came up just short. Her strong showing proves that even in more conservative areas, people are ready to move past divisive politics and refocus on what students need. We are excited for Steve — a parent focused on children and common sense rather than a political agenda — and look forward to the next election.
Roaring Fork:
Tamara Nimmo (District A) and Kathryn Kuhlenberg (District E) defeated two extremists and are poised to continue the work that has been started in the district. We need these two to push the existing board members to be more bold and accelerate progress, and believe they will help the school district move forward on its journey to make sure all students receive a quality education and are performing up to standards.
Summit County:
Kimberly Dyer and Whitney Horner won at‑large seats, ensuring continuity of leadership despite the election of a radical candidate to the third seat. While the board majority is sound, we would encourage the third member – a Latina – to recognize the values of the vast majority of Latino families in Summit and abandon her extremist agenda.
“Yes” for Propositions LL and MM
Voces Unidas also supported Propositions LL and MM, which were overwhelmingly approved by voters. Following the passage of the Healthy School Meals for All program by Colorado voters in 2022, Propositions LL and MM will expand funding for the program in future years and ensure that every student has access to meals at school.
We take pride in all of these wins knowing that our hard work paid off. This election season our teams worked evenings and weekends to connect with voters via phone calls, text messages, digital outreach, and canvassing. We reached almost 25,000 voters: about 11,000 in Mesa County, 3,000 in Garfield RE‑2, 6,000 in Roaring Fork, and 5,000 in Summit County.
Congratulations and thanks to you all for your participation in this important election!
