A new voice for House District 13

As votes continue to be counted tonight, early results show Consuelo Redhorse on track to win House District 13. Voces Unidas Action Fund congratulates her on an apparent victory built on her record of community leadership and the trust she earned from voters.

Consuelo will bring a new voice and a new perspective to this seat. For Voces Unidas, her win also represents years of work in the communities that make up HD13.

That work began with redistricting in 2021. Voces Unidas, as a brand new rural organization, pushed for new district maps that kept Latino families together as a community of interest. We fought for the opportunity to build political influence instead of having our communities split apart. House districts 13, 26 and 57, for example, are a direct result of our unapologetic and direct advocacy during the redistricting process.

But new district lines were only the beginning. For more than five years, we have organized, invested in local leaders and built political infrastructure in rural communities. In 2023, we opened our Frisco office and engaged in our first school board races in Summit and Lake counties. We have invested more than any other nonprofit group in school board and countywide races in the region because those offices make decisions that directly affect Latino families.

That local work is how we came to know Consuelo. We proudly endorsed her twice in her school board races and watched her stand up for students and families.

When she ran for House District 13, we were ready. In the primary, we invested more than any other local group to support her against big corporate interests. And our support continued through Election Day.

“Voters in HD13 are clearly placing their trust in Consuelo to lead, and we are proud to have supported her from her school board races to this historic campaign,” said Alex Sánchez, president and CEO of Voces Unidas. “For years, we have organized, invested in local leaders and built the political infrastructure for rural Latino communities to help decide who represents us. Tonight’s results show what working people can accomplish when we organize, invest and participate at every level of our democracy.”

But winning an election is only the beginning. The leaders we help elect must deliver for the communities that sent them.

“Latinos want what other voters want: elected leaders who listen, show up and deliver,” Sánchez said. “We expect Consuelo to stand with agricultural workers, immigrants and working families, even when that means challenging the entrenched establishment in Denver, powerful corporations and lobbyists. Rural working families deserve a legislator willing to take on those fights.”

We stand with Consuelo and are ready to work with her to turn those expectations into action. Latinos and other voters deserve a Legislature that delivers for our communities.
