Education justice is on the ballot this November. This is why Voces Unidas Action Fund has endorsed three school board candidates aligned to our progressive values: Kenneth “Kenny” Teitler for District A and Kathryn Kuhlenberg for District E in the Roaring Fork Schools (RFS) and Lauren Caitlin Carey for District E in the Garfield Re-2 School District (GSD).
“We are excited to share our support for these local education champions,” said Alex Sánchez, executive director of Voces Unidas Action Fund. “All three candidates are aligned to our progressive values as an organization and have expressed a deep understanding of and commitment to the hard work that still needs to be done to ensure that Latino students get the quality education that they deserve in their school districts.”
These are the only candidates that earned Voces Unidas Action Fund’s endorsement in these respective school board races. Each endorsed candidate expressed policy positions and commitment to tangible actions to address the needs of the more than 5,000 Latino students in their districts. All three candidates have committed to holding their district accountable for achievement and academic gaps between Latino students and their white peers.
As an organization, Voces Unidas Action Fund believes that both of these school districts need more progressive board members who are not afraid of championing equity and education justice, especially given their current student demographics. Roaring Fork Schools and Garfield RE-2 School District are both minority-majority school districts, where Latinos and other students of color represent the majority of the student population.
“Voces Unidas Action Fund is committed to ensuring that these candidates win their races, but our work doesn’t stop on Election Day,” said Sánchez. “We will hold the winners, the rest of the board, and district leadership accountable for the opportunities, experiences, and outcomes that we expect for Latina and Latino students.”
Election Day is Tuesday, November 2. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day for your vote to count.
