Demanding Transparency and Justice for Delvin Rodriguez

Updated: 35 minutes ago

This week, Voces Unidas formally delivered demands to Colorado’s entire congressional delegation following the death of Delvin Francisco Rodriguez while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

On February 2, 2026, Voces Unidas and 23 other Colorado organizations called for immediate transparency and accountability from ICE and the Department of Homeland Security. See list of organizations below.

Delvin was detained by ICE in Summit County in September 2025 and taken to the Aurora detention center. After signing paperwork agreeing to self-deport so he could return home to his family in Nicaragua, he was instead transferred to a detention facility in Mississippi.

Soon after arriving there, Delvin was found unresponsive in detention on December 4. He died on December 14, 2025. His family has been left without clear answers about what happened in the days leading up to his death.

In our letter, we urged Colorado’s senators and members of Congress to request a full briefing from DHS and ICE, demand an explanation for Delvin’s transfer out of Colorado, call for an independent investigation, and ensure all records are preserved and released to his family.

Voces Unidas also met personally with Senator Michael Bennet in our Glenwood Springs office, where we presented the letter directly. While he was with us, Senator Bennet spoke with Delvin’s family over the phone from our office so they could share their concerns and questions directly.

This is part of our broader civil rights work. Voces Unidas takes action whenever we see the rights of rural Latinos being violated or ignored. We are here to support our community, demand accountability, and make sure families are not left alone when harm happens in silence.

Delvin’s family deserves answers. Colorado’s immigrant communities deserve transparency. And no one should die in detention without oversight and consequences.

We will continue updating the community as we push for justice for Delvin and his family and demand the full truth from federal authorities.
