Voces Unidas Action Fund announces 2026 primary endorsements

Voces Unidas Action Fund is proud to announce its endorsements for the 2026 primary election, supporting candidates we believe will advance the priorities of rural Latino communities across the Western Slope. These endorsements reflect not only issue alignment, but also trust, access and a demonstrated willingness to partner with rural Latino communities.

“As an organization that cares deeply about rural Latinos on the Western Slope, we support leaders who show up, listen, and have earned our trust through their consistent engagement,” said Alex Sánchez, president and CEO of Voces Unidas. “The relationships we have established and our past experience working with these leaders inform our decisions. We are confident that these candidates will put the issues affecting our rural communities at the forefront of their work as elected officials.”

Our endorsement committee is made up of Voces Unidas staff, board members and local community leaders. We invited select candidates to apply based on their public records and positions on issues important to rural Latino communities. The committee reviewed questionnaire responses and invited the most aligned candidates to interview.

In primary elections, where candidates are often closely aligned on our priority issues, we also weighed our past experience, working relationships and each candidate’s record of engaging rural Latino communities. Our final decisions reflect the candidates we believe are best aligned with our values and mission, have a track record of partnership, and can be trusted to deliver results for rural Latinos on the Western Slope.

Our other endorsed candidates for the 2026 primary election are:

Michael Bennet | Governor

We had already announced our endorsement for Michael Bennet for governor. Bennet earned our support because of his consistent engagement with rural Latinos on the Western Slope. He shows up, he listens, and he partners with our communities. Over the past five years, he has met with Voces Unidas staff and rural Latino leaders more often than any other public official – in our communities, on park benches during COVID, and when we travel to Washington, D.C., to discuss federal policy. We trust him to include us in decisions about issues that impact our communities.

Jena Griswold | Attorney General

We’re endorsing Jena Griswold for Attorney General because we know her, trust her, and believe she will partner with rural Latinos on the Western Slope to protect our civil rights, enforce Colorado law, and hold local, state, and federal officials accountable when they violate our communities’ rights. Voces Unidas previously endorsed Jena for Secretary of State, and we believe she will continue showing up by listening to our communities, strengthening our access and influence, and taking action on the issues that affect our families — from immigration enforcement and government accountability to workers’ rights and emerging threats.

Jessie Danielson | Secretary of State

We’re endorsing Jessie Danielson for Secretary of State because we have worked with her directly, we know her values, and we trust her commitment to protecting voting rights for rural Latino communities. Jessie has stood with farmworkers, rural working families, and communities too often left out of the political process. As Secretary of State, we believe she will fight to ensure our elections remain fair, accessible, and accountable — and that rural Latinos on the Western Slope will have a stronger voice in our democracy.

Consuelo Redhorse | House District 13

We’re endorsing Consuelo Redhorse because we have worked with her over the past four years and have seen her fight alongside our communities on the issues that matter most. Consuelo understands the housing, education, environmental, and economic pressures facing Latino families in our rural mountain communities, and we trust her to listen, learn, and lead in partnership with community members and organizations.

Alex Kelloff | Congressional District 3

We’re endorsing Alex Kelloff because he has taken the time to listen, build relationships, and show that he is committed to rural Latino communities across the Western Slope. He has made himself accessible, sought our advice and demonstrated responsiveness and growth in his understanding of our priorities. We believe he will continue showing up, learning, and working in partnership with rural Latinos in CD-3.

Manny Rutinel | Congressional District 8

While Congressional District 8 is outside of our immediate region, we recognize the importance of the larger federal agenda for rural Latinos. We’re endorsing Manny Rutinel because he brings lived experience, understands the challenges facing working families, and is committed to standing up for immigrant and Latino communities in Congress. His leadership will have a ripple effect across Colorado, including on the Western Slope.

As a local, community-created 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, we invest our time, energy and resources to support our endorsed candidates. We volunteer, knock on doors, make phone calls and raise money from local community members because we believe that when our neighbors and communities come together to support leaders who share our values, we can achieve the change we need.

“Everyone invited into our endorsement process demonstrated meaningful alignment with our values and priorities,” added Sánchez. “Primaries are difficult, but they make our democracy stronger. We respect every candidate who stepped forward to serve. Primaries should sharpen our choices, not divide us before the fights ahead — in the general election and against those threatening our rights, our democracy and our communities.”

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026. You will receive a ballot by mail at your home.

Primary elections decide the candidate who will represent each major political party in the General Election in November. If you are unaffiliated (don't have a Party), you can still vote. You will get both ballots, one for the Democrats and the other for Republicans. Select one ballot and vote one ballot.
